Collection: Gut Oggau-Burgenland-Austria

Gut Oggau is a small but legendary winery in the town of Oggau, Burgenland, Austria, run by Eduard and Stephanie Tscheppe. They started in 2007 by bringing a 17th-century winery — abandoned for 20 years — back to life, even restoring its original 200-year-old screw press. That long period of neglect turned out to be a blessing, as decades of rain had washed away any trace of pesticides and chemicals. This meant they could go straight into biodynamic farming, which is now fully Demeter-certified.

From the start, they noticed each wine felt like it had its own personality. So instead of focusing on grape varieties, they built a “family” of wines, each with a name, a face (drawn by artist Jung von Matt), and a distinct character.

The children are bright, bold, and full of energy.
The parents are richer and more powerful, coming from sunnier vineyards.
The grandparents are the wise, classic elders from old-vine single vineyards.

Most of their vineyards are field blends, with grapes like Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling, Weissburgunder, and Gewürztraminer. In the cellar, everything is done naturally — spontaneous fermentation, aging in large old barrels, no fining, no filtering. The result is a collection of wines that feel alive, each with its own story to tell — like meeting someone new and immediately wanting to know more.
