Serragghia is the project of Gabrio Bini, an architect-turned-winemaker who left Milan for the windswept volcanic island of Pantelleria, closer to Tunisia than mainland Italy. What began as a retreat quickly became a lifelong dedication to farming and making wine in one of the most extreme and beautiful places on earth.
The vineyards are rooted in black volcanic soils, constantly swept by strong Mediterranean winds. Here, Gabrio works mostly with Zibibbo (Muscat of Alexandria), along with some red varieties like Carignano and Nerello Mascalese, all farmed biodynamically with total respect for the land. The vines are trained low to the ground in traditional “alberello” bush form, a method that has protected them for centuries on this harsh island.
In the cellar, everything is done with patience and minimal interference. Grapes ferment naturally and age in amphorae (terracotta jars) buried underground, which allows the wines to develop slowly, in tune with Pantelleria’s rhythms. The result is intensely aromatic, salty, wild wines that seem to carry the island’s sun, wind, and volcanic energy in every sip.
Serragghia is not about consistency, but about capturing the spirit of Pantelleria. Each vintage tells a different story, raw and alive, just like the land itself.
