Momento Mori Nazomi 2022

Schioppettino, Syrah, Vermentino

A fresh, lively rosé-style wine from Momento Mori, a blend of Schioppettino, Syrah rosé, with just a splash of Vermentino. The fruit comes from lower slopes of the Mt Camel vineyard, where the soil is deep red volcanic loam — cooler and more moisture-retentive than the rockier top-slope soils. For vinification, each variety is treated separately in stainless steel and ceramic egg, with a semi-liquid carbonic maceration method Dane has refined; then the components rest over autumn and winter before being blended and bottled. 

On the nose, Nazomi shows red berries and pink grapefruit, with floral lift and energetic freshness. On the palate it’s light but structured, with vibrant acidity and a poised tension — enough flesh to give texture, but always pulled tight by freshness. There’s minimal SO₂ (15ppm added just before bottling) and only one racking (for blending), so much of the wine’s “energy”! It’s a wine that sits up straight in the glass, laser-focused but charming, fun without losing its sense of place.
